TCU/IAM JOB CORPS: SERVING AMERICA’S YOUTH SINCE 1971
Since 1971, under a series of national contracts, the Transportation Communications Union/International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (hereafter, TCU/IAM) has been working continuously with the Office of Job Corps and the U.S. Department of Labor to recruit and enroll Job Corps students into the TCU/IAM Advanced Training Program. Our training prepares them for long-term, high wage employment within various transportation industries.
TCU/IAM, an affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is a non-profit labor union which represents approximately 50,000 persons employed by railroads, airlines, bus and trucking companies, as well as other transportation and non-transportation related companies in the United States. The Transportation Communications Union (TCU) fully merged with The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) on January 1, 2012. With the additional 600,000 members represented by the IAM, the TCU/IAM Advanced Training Program now has various opportunities for job development and expansion within the machinist and aerospace industries.
In the United States, the largest number of TCU/IAM members are employed by various Class I railroads. TCU/IAM negotiates wages, fringe benefits and working conditions for such employees with the National Railroad Labor Conference (NRLC), a group which represents almost all railroads.
